FRP Composite Fasteners

Pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer fastening systems

FRP (fiber-reinforced polymer) composite fasteners — also called fiberglass fasteners — use alkali-free glass fiber as reinforcement, impregnated with epoxy / vinyl-ester / polyester resin and pultruded into non-metallic fastening components, including the full set of FRP bolts, nuts, flat washers, threaded rods and studs.

FRP Threaded Rod

FRP Threaded Rod

  • StructureThe entire rod is fully threaded with no bolt head, and can be cut to any length on demand.
  • MaterialPultruded glass-fiber rod in epoxy / vinyl-ester, with continuous fibers throughout for high axial tensile strength.
  • UsagePasses through clearance holes in two workpieces and is locked with a nut at each end; ideal for long-span connections, flange clamping, cabinet penetrations and rock-bolt support; length is not limited by standard bolt sizes and can be cut to order.
  • FeaturesCan be joined and extended indefinitely; no head limitation; ideal for long-span insulated fastening; cannot be positioned by a single head like a bolt.
  • ColorWater-green and beige; sizes M6–M30.
FRP Bolt

FRP Bolt

  • StructureOne end has a molded hex head; the shank is partially externally threaded and the head is used for wrench-limited tightening — the threaded section is usually only part of the shank.
  • MaterialThreads machined on pultruded FRP stock; epoxy G10 is most commonly used.
  • UsageInsert through a hole in the workpiece; fit a nut + washer on the other side to lock; the head bears against the workpiece surface for positioning and easy assembly/disassembly.
  • FeaturesFixed head for quick installation; supplied at fixed finished lengths and cannot be cut at will — cutting would damage the hex head.
  • ApplicationsTransformers, rectifier equipment, anti-corrosion equipment, FRP platform fixing.
FRP Nut

FRP Nut

  • StructureHex-shaped with precision-machined internal threads matching FRP bolts / threaded rods.
  • MaterialInternal threads tapped from FRP plate or stock; epoxy G10 gives the best strength, while polyester is lower cost.
  • UsageScrewed onto the external threads of a threaded rod or bolt to apply clamping force; must always be used together with an FRP washer to avoid crushing composite workpieces.
  • NoteFRP is more brittle than metal — never force with excessive torque; over-tightening easily causes thread stripping or cracking.
  • TypeMainly standard hex nuts; square nuts can also be made.
FRP Washer

FRP Washer

  • StructureAnnular flat washer with a central hole; inner and outer diameters match the bolt size.
  • MaterialG10 / FR4 epoxy glass-fiber board.
  • Core Function1) Increases the bearing contact area and distributes tightening pressure to prevent FRP nuts from crushing the workpiece; 2) Electrically isolates and maintains insulation integrity; 3) Compensates for assembly clearance.
  • Usage RuleWhen assembling bolts / threaded rods, washers are recommended on both sides of the workpiece; metal washers should not be mixed with FRP fasteners.

Key Advantages

  • Electrically insulating, non-magnetic, dielectric strength ≥ 15 kV/mm
  • Resists acid, alkali, seawater and flue-gas corrosion — never rusts
  • Lightweight — about 1/4 the weight of steel
  • Resin options: epoxy (high-strength insulation), vinyl-ester (strong anti-corrosion), polyester (economical)
  • Applications: power transformers, chemical desulfurization, marine equipment, FRP platforms, mine support

Product Types (by Matrix Resin)

Epoxy FRP fasteners: best overall performance, high insulation and mechanical strength, temperature range ‑40~180°C, resistant to acid/alkali/salt corrosion; the mainstream choice for cathodic-protection projects, suited to buried, seawater and outdoor exposure.

Vinyl-ester FRP fasteners: high corrosion-resistance grade, resistant to chloride ions, seawater and chemical wastewater; widely used in offshore platforms, coastal pipelines and tank anti-corrosion works.

Polyester FRP fasteners: cost-effective, weather- and UV-resistant, suited to general soil, municipal anti-corrosion and ordinary outdoor equipment fixing.

Standard sizes: metric M6–M30; hexagonal bolts, fully-threaded rods, double-end studs and matching nuts/washers can be machined, with non-standard custom sizes supported.
